Animal lovers in Lithuania have created a mobile application inspired by the popular dating app Tinder to match up dogs in local shelters with new owners. Called GetPet, the app was launched last month and is getting hundreds of new users daily and already has made a few matches. It joins a growing market of apps for people looking to adopt a pet, including PawsLikeMe and BarkBuddy. GetPet features profiles of furry four-legged creatures looking up with soft, yearning eyes. Scrolling down reveals more information about the pup, and those interested can then swipe right. But there are limits to the Tinder comparison. If you swipe left, another dog profile appears. Gecevicius said the idea came to creators when they saw a stray dog on the street through the window during a computer workshop. Two friends, Emily and Elena, recently scanned the app and then visited the SOS Gyvunai shelter in Vilnius to meet Piff, a medium black-and-gray mongrel.

In recent years, Rachael Rodgers has found her Instagram account to have gained more than 77, followers. Way back in December , Rodgers posted a picture of Denali, her dog, seated in a canoe while they paddled through the picturesque mountains of Western Canada. The picture was then shared by a couple of other canine-focused accounts. From there, a couple thousand of their followers found their way back to Rodgers, trailsandbears , and began following her account.
Why not show them dogs — dogs that need a home? Since then, Rodgers has been using photography and Instagram to bring attention to adoptable animals around her home in Canmore, Alberta. As Know Your Value reports, Rodgers creates digital art — some of which is hanging at the pub where she is employed as a server. She takes hundreds of each, sharing the best ones to Facebook and Instagram. She also gives the photos to the shelters who are caring for the animals so they can use them in their promotional networks.
While some of the dogs she photographs get dropped off at her home, there are other times that she has to drive for miles to pick up, then drive even further in order to find a suitable place to photograph. As tedious it may be at times, according to NBC, Rodgers is hopeful that her work is appreciated, catches on, but more importantly, helps to get more dogs adopted.
Rodgers is also very happy and willing to share tips with other aspiring photographers, as well as promote the importance of adopting a rescue dog, instead of buying one from a breeder. But if those dogs are amazing, then why get a family pet from a breeder? Here are ours for the comments:.

Dom Dickinson is looking love on Tinder, Hinge and Bumble – but he’s found having a certain something in his photos makes all the different. Dom Dickinson hit the dating game hard when he split up with his girlfriend, signing up to Tinder, Hinge and Bumble. But the year-old didn’t have much luck when it came to the ladies, despite having his own business, owning a house and being a good looking chap.
Dom, from Watford, added photos of him with his adorable poochon puppy Oscar – and it worked a treat. He claims his likes have surged “tenfold”, but it’s left him wondering one thing – “Is it me or my dog that she’s attracted to? Dom’s love affair with dogs began after he split up with his girlfriend of more than two years and became slightly introverted, which worried his friends.
After downloading the app, within weeks Dom was hooked up with a friendly poochon dog called Pablo. And when, six months later, Dom was told that Pablo’s mum had given birth to a new litter, he knew he had to have one of the puppies. Collecting Oscar, who he has professionally groomed at his local salon, Groomarts, every six weeks, he was instantly smitten. He’s given me a purpose.
And it seems that Dom is not the only one to find Oscar’s charms irresistible – if the reaction from prospective online dates is anything to go by. It’s a bit old now, but I’ve left it on my profile because it’s so cute. They always start off talking about Oscar and say things like, ‘Your dog is so cute. Including Oscar on his profile pictures also helps Dom to sort out the wheat from the chaff when it comes to dating.
